Battlefield Bowmen

We've been thinking about being involved with the Battle of Shrewsbury for sometime, but at 1403 it was really a couple of hundred years too far! The 600th anniversary of the Battle came and went and we weren't involved, then a local land owner (Joyce Jagger and her son Jeremy) acquired the farm on which the Battle was widely claimed to have taken place. They decided to convert the old run down farm into a Battlefield Visitors Centre and open it to the public on the 600th anniversary of the inauguration of the Battlefield Church. We had to be involved!

With the aid of a lottery grant from Awards for All we created Battlefield Bowmen. A medieval Archery group whose aim is to recreate life and society in the Shrewsbury Area around the time of the Battle of Shrewsbury, and to enable these recreations to inform, educate and entertain the general public.

We hold regular weekly archery demonstrations to increase the skills of our own archers and also invite the public to 'Have a Go' shooting for themselves. Our Archery instructors are all covered by 3rd Party Insurance. It is hoped that we will bring the fun of archery to folk who would not otherwise have the opportunity and in doing so, create a new viable, medieval archery club.
